Left in its last leap (07-07-2008)

The Left bid to throttle the UPA government’s any move towards the implication of the contentious Indo-US nuclear deal will have its end, by July 10, when it would submit its letter of withdrawing support to the current government to President Pratibha Patil. This will bring to the fore an abrupt end of a prospective yet failed cooperation in all respects. The date of this has also been perfectly fixed, only after the homecoming of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh from Japan.

In the meanwhile there has been a number of suggestions from the Congress for the commencement of a fresh series of meeting, but the malcontent souls of Left parties remain unchanged and also snub that the governmental approach towards implementing the deal will be for the national interest. They remain steadfast that the Congress-led UPA Government is committed to the US on the 123 Agreement surrendering national interest and sovereignty though they are yet to see the original draft. On the contrary they are depending on the statements of the US Ambassador and the past acts of the US governments brushing aside the realism of a changed world.

The whole scenario points a finger to the Left comprehension and their pragmatism, if there is any! The world has changed considerably in the last two decades with the obliteration of erstwhile Soviet Union and the emergence of US hegemony. But the apparatchiks seem to love living in illusions and also to make India the vanguard against US-led imperialism!

Nevertheless their wise dreams to blackjack have fallen apart for the SP’s sudden desire to benefit the nation. This has made both PM and Congress confident to take on Left challenge and to make US President comprehend Indian intention to follow through the nuclear deal.
